It is a playful lightness that makes Salzburg, this cosmopolitan city in miniature, so unmistakable. This silhouette of the fortress, cathedral and church towers of the charming baroque city on the northern edge of the Alps. So beautiful that it has long been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. So famous that its landmarks are among the most famous in the world.
Strolling through the old town of Salzburg, the sights are at your feet: the Residence, the Glockenspiel, the Cathedral, the Franciscan Church, Mozart Square, the Pferdeschwemme, Hofstallgasse, Hohensalzburg Fortress, St. Peter’s Monastery. In every nook and corner you can feel the breath of times long past: the eras have left their mark on churches, towers, facades, balustrades and galleries. And the street names also tell stories of events and people.
Numerous castles invite you to stroll around the city and the surrounding towns: Mirabell Palace, where numerous wedding ceremonies are held in the marble hall, and whose garden is one of the most beautiful photo motifs in Salzburg. Hellbrunn Palace in the south of the city delights with its wondrous water games in summer and the charming Christmas market in winter. And Klessheim Castle in Wals, Leopoldskron Castle or Aigen Castle with its park are also worth a trip to the countryside.
